In this article I am going to share with you my experience as a Wedding DJ after performing at Barley Town House just last weekend (February 2019). I will let you know my honest opinion and share some hints tips to (I hope) make your special day even more perfect!
First of all allow me to introduce myself. My name is Dan and I am a full time Specialist Wedding DJ. I am based nearby to the venue in the town of Hertford Through my business “Shoosh Weddings” I provide awesome wedding parties throughout Herts & Essex at many of the leading Wedding Venues. I LOVE my job and am proud to be a “Preferred Wedding DJ at Barley Town House”.

So, Barley Town House is a Wedding Venue based in the village of Barley around a 10 minuet drive from Buntingford and 5 minuets from Royston. A grade 2 listed building, Barley Town House has stood since the 16th century and has bags of character. The venue was the first village hall in the country to receive a licence to hold civil marriages. The venue is a Dry Hire dream, basically a blank canvas so that you can put your own personalty into the space.
TIP. One of the biggest plus points to this venue is that it is relatively unheard of. I perform at many many venues each year and even I hadn’t heard of Barley Town House. This for me is what I love about the venue. You can be sure that the vast majority of your guests will not have been to the place either making your wedding unique!
Saturdays Vintage Wedding!
Last Saturday I had the privilege of being the Wedding DJ at Andrew and Anna’s wedding reception. Just the nicest couple a DJ could want to work with, they really did create something special and show what’s possible to achieve at this hidden gem of a venue. All of the images from here on in were captured by the amazing Lucy McAlpine Photography who captured the spirit of the day so perfectly.
A Rustic / Vintage Dream Venue
Barley Town House lends itself to a rustic or vintage theme wedding so well. The building does most of the work for you with its beautiful beams. Pictured here is the larger of the two areas upstairs. This is a perfect size for a wedding breakfast and an epic party in the evening! I love the flooring too, one big dance floor! You can tell that a lot of TLC goes into keeping the venue in tip top condition.
A Stress Free Turn Around
One thing I like about this venue is that it has two separate areas which make transitions in the wedding day time line a breeze. What I mean by this is that each time a room needs to be turned around guests can move to the other area. Your DJ will love you for this. After the meal and speeches the wedding moves downstairs while the room is transformed for the evening party. Many, many venues have you stuck in the same room while the entertainment set up around you….not cool!
Upstairs / Downstairs
With two levels you can make your wedding day a really interesting one at Barley Town House. I thing that Saturdays couple really got things spot on. The bar area is best for downstairs and is the perfect setting to welcome guests. Our couple opted to have a photo booth on the ground level also, this worked really well however would be equally great upstairs. On the first floor is where the evening party happens. This is the largest area and can accommodate 100 or so dancers for your Wedding DJ to entertain!
Party Time @ Barley Town House
Barley Town House has the potential to give you an epic evening party. With a little planning you will have the upstairs looking and sounding awesome. Personally I truly enjoyed my time as a Barley Town House Wedding DJ! Before the big day I had a few slight concerns with regards to music volume limitations and access however these turned out to be just fine. Here are a few pro tips to help you when considering the Barley Town House as your potential wedding venue 🙂
Barley Town House Wedding DJ Tip: The venue has strict noise limitations and has a sound limier installed. This isn’t a bad thing and any good DJ will be able to work with the restrictions set. I would recommend requesting your DJ not using Bass Bins as too much Bass will cause the music to cut off. Even with the limiter installed the dance floor volume will be of a good level when audio is set up correctly.
Barley Town House Wedding DJ Tip: Book a DJ who takes a “Less is More” approach when it comes to packages. Let the venue do all the work. At Barley Town House you don’t need to turn the room into to O2 Arena, that would spoil the charm. I like to use Up Lighting to colour the beams of the room….this looks fantastic! Free Up Lighting is included with all my bookings at Barley Town House – Saving £120!
Happy to say that I thoroughly recommend - Barley Town House!
So I’m sure you can tell by now that I am a big fan of Barley Town House Wedding Venue. If you are looking for an alternative to the regular Wedding Venue / Hotel packages and are wanting to really make a place your own then this could be well the place for you!
